GreenEarth Cleaning |
Harpers Dry Cleaners is proud to be one of the first, and only, dry cleaners to use the GreenEarth Cleaning process in the United Kingdom.
GreenEarth is a totally new and environmentally friendly way of cleaning. It is totally odourless, which means you do not have that traditional dry cleaning smell on your garments. ABSOLUTELY NO ODOURS!
The GreenEarth process enables our technicians to clean our customers' clothes without causing any shrinkage or wrinkling to any garments, EVERY TIME!
Other benefits are that your garments never lose their vibrant colours. Your garments stay the way you purchased them for longer!
The GreenEarth solution is the only cleaning process that allows for your delicate garments to be cleaned. Items such as silks & wools produce fantastic results. Beaded & sequinned items can be cleaned, and come out perfect, time and time again.
Why GreenEarth?
The GreenEarth Solution used to dry clean your clothes is chemically inert. This means it does not chemically interact with your clothes in any way. Rather, it carries detergent to your clothes and rinses away suspended dirt and oils trapped by the detergent.
Because it is chemically inert, it is gentler on your clothes. Wools do not come out looking "washed out", dry, or full of static. Silks and acetates are treated more gently. Colours remain bright and intact since there is no chemical reaction with the solution. Customers who have seen the GreenEarth Solution in operation say the garments come out looking like they have been "in a mineral bath", with a soft and gentle feel, and with very little wrinkling.
The solution is safe for all buttons and trim of any kind. This makes the processing of your special clothes easier, with no special handling. You will see better service and fewer problems with buttons being damaged.
And of course, GreenEarth Cleaning is better for you because "it's good for everybody". You can be assured that your GreenEarth Cleaner is a safer cleaner - for you, for your garments, for his employees, and for our environment.
The Evolution of Dry Cleaning
In the first quarter of the 1900's, a petroleum-based fluid termed Stoddard solvent was widely chosen because it cleaned well, it could be made widely available, and it was more economical to use than other solvents. However, it had a low flashpoint and caused many explosions and fires in the early drycleaning plants.
In the 1930's, Perchlorethylene (or Perc for short) was introduced to the industry as an alternative to the Stoddard solvent. It was also based upon carbon chemistry. Perc was a superior cleaning agent and had no flashpoint, thereby reducing fire hazard. It rapidly became the solvent of choice for the drycleaning industry.
Currently, Perc is used by 85% of the drycleaners in the United Kingdom and around the world.
Perc, however, is heavily regulated due to environmental concerns. Further, it has damaged the drycleaning industry due to the costs of cleaning up sites that have been contaminated, the ongoing expenses and surcharges attached to buying and disposing of the product, and the public policy issues associated with using the solvent.
As a result, over the past several years there have been many significant attempts to find alternative solvents that would be suitable for use by all of us in the drycleaning industry. We in the industry have certainly wanted another way to meet the needs of our customers, as well as protect the communities in which we live. We have gone to great effort and expense to handle Perc responsibly, while continuing to hope for and explore possible alternative solvents to Perc.
Harpers cares about your garments and your environment.
